Early-game mistakes that sink strategy runs

Early-game mistakes that sink strategy runs

July 11, 2026 · Lukas Brenner

Strategy games on mobile love to lull you with an easy opening, and that's exactly when bad habits form. The most common one I catch myself doing is over-expanding before I can defend what I've got.

Scouting is the other thing people skip. It feels like wasted effort when nothing's threatening you, but going in blind against an adapting opponent is how you lose your flank without seeing it coming.

I've learned to treat the first stretch of a match as setup, not action. Get your resource loop stable, know where the enemy is, and only then start pushing.

It's less exciting than rushing, sure. But the games I've actually finished were the ones where I was patient at the start.
